US strategy on China not about "new Cold War," but rules-based world order: Blinken

CA, 27 May 2022
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Thursday that the country's strategy when it comes to strengthening diplomacy with China is about getting Beijing to adhere to international rules, not starting a "new Cold War" between two global superpowers.

He said that there is no intent to sever China from the global economy or keep it from growing, nor will it try to change Beijing's political system. But Blinken said the U.S. would defend international law and institutions that maintain peace and security and make it possible for countries to coexist.
"We're not looking for conflict or a new Cold War. To the contrary, we're determined to avoid both," Blinken said.

Blinken also laid out a strategy to invest in U.S. competitiveness and align with allies and partners to compete with China. He outlined the Biden administration strategy as "invest, align, compete."
